Training on soil and water conservation conducted

A one-day training programme on "Soil and Water conservation" was organised by North Eastern Regional Institute of Water and Land Management (NERIWALM), an institute under the Department of Water Resources, RD & GR, Ministry of Jal Shakti, in collaboration with District Rural Development and Panchayat! Raj (DRDA), Chandel at Pururn Pantha community hall, Chandel Block on Friday.
It may be mentioned that a similar programme was conducted on Thursday at the conference hall DC Complex, Chandel district headquarters.
Speaking on the occasion, NERIWALM assistant professor (WRE) Dr Sanayanbi Hodam highlighted the need for soil and water conservation, while Dr Hodam gave a brief introduction on NERIWALM and importance of organising such training programme.
Three resource persons from the cluster Facilitation Project, MGNREGA, namely state project officer (NRM) Okram Basudev, Block NRM experts Dr Shelina Rajkumari and Dr Saikhom Bidyasagar also spoke on three important topics, namely 'water conservation technology for hill agriculture', "soil degradation and conservation' and 'System of Rice Intensification' respectively.
The training programme was attended by officers from PHED, DRDA, District Agriculture Department, farmers, village chiefs and stakeholders from the district.
The programme ended with official remark and vote of thanks by MGNREGA, Chandel project officer Stephen Modar.
