Senapati, October 07 2022:
The Senapati-Phaibung Road Development Committee along with leaders of 18 villages have appealed to the authorities concern to complete the repair work of the 128 Km long Senapati-Phaibung Road within this month and warned of agitation in case of failure to comply with the demands.
Addressing a press meet held at TNK Senapati, RL Paongi, secretary SP Road Development Committee informed that an emergency meeting was held today with the leaders of 18 villages located along the Senapati-Phaibung Road.
"The meeting lamented the incomplete construction work of the road", said RL Paongi while adding that the meeting resolved to launch an intense form of democratic agitation if the construction work is not taken up within the month of October.
He also urged the authorities concerned to consider the difficulties of the people and take up immediate steps to complete the construction.
It may be mentioned that Senapati-Phaibung Road is the only communicable road connecting the Southern Lepaona villages and Chilivai villages, which is reportedly one of the most neglected zones of Eastern Senapati district, bordering Ukhrul.
Construction of Senapati-Phaibung Road was entrusted to the BRO/25 BRTF by DoNER and the project was implemented under the NLCPR Scheme with funding shares of 90 percent by the Central Government and 10 percent by the State Government.
The work commenced on December 16, 2002 and was reportedly suspended in 2012-13 after completing half the distance due to technical problems but was resumed again in 2018 .
The construction work was reportedly stopped in 2021 .
