Moyon Naga Christian Centennial Celebration begins

A three-day Moyon Naga Christian Centennial Celebration (1922-2022) to mark 100 years of Moyon Naga was inaugurated by Moyon Naga Baptist Association (MYNBA), Penaching at Kapam Baptist Church, Chandel on Friday.
The celebration, which is being organised under theme of "God Our Heritage" commenced with hoisting of the Association's flag by its president Rev Beninon Benhur Ngoruw.
United College, Lambung associate Prof Shanuw Dr Danney Chara led Pioneer Moyon Christian Shanuw Mamie Roel s/o (L) Dr Thoma Roel in unveiling a new monument at MYNBA campus, which was followed by unveiling of another monument at Kapam Baptist Church by Pioneer Moyon Christian Khp Jenial Serbum s/o (L) Dr Ngamdil and presentation of various cultural performances.
Addressing the gathering, Programme Committee member and MYNBA executive secretary Rev Dr Koningthung Ngoruw said that Moyon Naga is a tribe which is found inhabiting only at Kabo Valley of Chandel, Manipur and Myanmar.
Despite not being a prominent tribe, the Moyons have their own culture and tradition, not to mention of its members being intellectually gifted.
The tribe also played a key role when Manipur was a sovereign kingdom, he added.
However, with the arrival of Christianity, Moyon tribe has undergone many changes and many host churches of Chandel are present in the area.
Schools and colleges have also been set up, thereby contributing to development of education sector in the state, he conveyed.
