Arrest culprits within 48 hrs or face agitations: JAC

In connection with the mysterious death of one Md Rashid Ahmed (37) of Mayai Keithel, a public meeting was held at the local community hall on Friday, wherein the gathering demanded the government to arrest the culprit(s) within 48 hours, failing which intense agitations would be launched.
According to Rashid's sister-in-law Wahida, Rashid had been staying at one Manglembi's house in Nongpok Keithelmanbi for around 10 years but returned home after getting married.
Manglembi came one day and begged the family to help, stating that she was in dire straits.
On October 4, Rashid went to Manglembi's house.
When the family contacted Rashid on the phone later that day, they were informed that he (Rashid) was asleep.
Later the phone remained in switched off mode and he could not be contacted.
However, on Thursday morning, they received a call saying that Rashid was lying dead at Yambem PHC.
Expressing her distraught that her younger brother (Rashid), was lured away in the name of maternal love and killed him, Wahida demanded the authority concerned to investigate the matter and punish the person(s) respon sible as per the law of the land, so as to prevent any such acts in the future.
On Friday morning, a meeting of clubs of Phanjakhong, Chandrakhong, Ningel, Ka-kmayai, Malom, Khoirom, Jaliyangbi, Heitroipokpi and Pitra; organisations, associations, Meira Paibi associations; Wangkhem Zilla Parishad nominee member Kh Sobha, Leirongthel-Ningel Gram Panchayat nominee pradhan Salam Kumar, Ward members, B Phainom Village chief and representatives of VCPC Manipur was convened, wherein Rashid's mysterious death was condemned and various resolutions adopted.
During the meeting, the JAC against the Killing of Md Rashid Ahmed alias Sanayai of Mayai Keithel was also formed.
The resolutions included demanding the government to arrested the culprit(s) within 48 hours, awarding befitting punishment to the guilty within the shortest time possible; launching of intense agitations if the culprit(s) were not arrested within 48 hours; presence of the Magistrate concerned and representative of the JAC during the post-mortem examina tion; not claiming the body until the case is solved; and lastly, urging the state CSOs, clubs and organisations to extend support to the JAC's actions.
Later, a two-minute silence was observed, praying for Rashid's soul to rest in peace.
