Live Laparoscopic surgery workshop held at Shija

A one-day "ASIMANICON 2022 pre-conference live Laparoscopic Surgery Workshop, was organised at Shija Hospitals & Research Institute (SHRI) on Friday.
This is a triangular effort of the Association of Minimal Access Surgeons of India (AMASI), the largest association of Minimal Access surgeons in the world with over 11,000 members, Association of Surgeons of India (ASI) - Manipur State Chapter, and Shija Hospitals & Research Institute, said a release by SHRI business development deputy manager Takhellambam Premkumar SHRI CMD Dr Kh Palin, AMASI senior vice-president Dr Kalpesh Jani, AMASI faculty Dr Pravin Suryavanshi, ASI-Manipur State Chapter chairman Dr Nepram Sanjib Singh, AMASI president Dr Jugindra Sorokhaibam attended the workshop as chief guest, guests of honour and president respectively.
The pre-conference workshop was organised in conjunction with 25th ASI-MANICON-2022, to be held on October 8 and 9 at RIMS, Imphal.
The ASIMANICON is an annual conference organised by the Association of Surgeons of India-Manipur State Chapter.
In their address, Dr Nepram Sanjib Singh and Dr Kalpesh Jani encouraged medical students and budding surgeons to participate in such surgical extravaganza and upgrade their laparoscopic skills while Dr Pravin Suryavanshi congratulated Dr Palin for introducing laparoscopic surgery in Manipur in 1996 despite being unavailable in most parts of the world by then.
Highlighting the evolving era of key-hole surgery in the state, Dr Palin said harmonic Scalpel (USA) was installed for the first time in Asia for bloodless surgery in 1997.According to Dr Jugindra Sorokhaibam, the hallmark of AMASI is to demonstrate surgeries through live workshops in which luminaries in the field of minimal access surgery share their expertise that are not articulated in books.
The event featured live telecast of 11 laparoscopic surgeries from the operating room to the workshop venue, where participants could interact with the operating surgeons.
Head of Surgical Discipline AIIMS Dr V Seendu, Senior General and Laparoscopic Surgeon Dr Samarkanta Soram, former head of Urology department RIMS Prof (Dr) S Rajendra, ASIMANICON 2022 organising secretary Dr AK Ibohal, nearly 70 participants including budding surgeons and postgraduate medical trainees of RIMS, Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences, and Shija attended the workshop.
With over 35,000 surgeries performed till date, Shija is a pioneer and leading brand in key-hole surgery in Eastern India.
Since 1996, Shija has advanced considerably when it comes to high end technologies for minimal access surgery.
Various minimal access surgeries including gallbladder stones, appendix removal, Common Bile Duct stones, kidney, urinary and bladder stones, gynaecological laparoscopic surgeries were performed by renowned AMASI faculty during the workshop using state-of-the-art 1688 4K platform (Stryker), the release added.
