Roop Raag revives music school

Roop Raag has revived its music school at Singjamei Chingamakha Maisnam Leikai, Imphal West.
The inaugural ceremony of the revived institute held on Sunday was attended by former minister Dr Moirangthem Nara, Roop Raag president Aribam Syam Sharma and working president Chongtham Kamala as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Nara stressed the importance of conserving culture, tradition and their values while adopting the modern trends.
He also spoke on the importance of institutions in conserving and promoting arts and culture while appreciating the revival of the music school of Roop Raag, which had produced several renowned artistes.
Dr Nara also expressed concern over the present trend of music in the state, which according to him, has failed to touch the hearts of the listeners.
He also proposed reprising the golden numbers of Roop Raag artistes.
Chongtham Kamala said that Roop Raag was established in 1960 and the music school in 1963 under the leadership of renowned singer Aheibam Budhachandra.
It was the music school, which kept alive Roop Raag as a leading musical group in the state, she said, while stressing the importance of honouring the contribution of Budhachandra as a music teacher.
