IBSB observes World Bamboo Day

Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD) on Sunday observed World Bamboo Day in collaboration with Manipur State Bamboo Mission, South Asian Bamboo Foundation and North East Centre for Technology Application and Research.
As chief guest of programme, Union minister of state for external affairs Dr RK Ranjan Singh emphasised on exploring bamboo diversity and scientific interventions for developing products/processes and improving the socio-economic status of the region.
IBSD director Prof Pulok K Mukherjee, who presided over the function, highlighted various research initiatives of IBSD for development of bioresources and boosting the bioeconomy of the region.
He also disclosed various research works being performed using bamboo bioresources of this region.
As a part of the programme, South Asian Bamboo Foundation CEO Kamesh Salam highlighted on the inception of World Bamboo Day and various initiatives of bamboo promoters all over the globe by organising various activities to mark this day while Manipur State Bamboo Mission director and principal secretary Swaran Singh Chhabra highlighted the various initiatives of the mission to promote bamboo in the state.
The event was joined online by many speakers from different countries including Ming (Jack) Huang from National Chung Cheng University Taiwan, Mark Sultan Bambuhay of Philippines, Bernice Dapaah from Ghana and Marco Piazza from Bangkok, and shared about their contribution to celebrate this day.
Experts including Dr Arun Kumar Sarma, Dr Lokesh Chandra Dubey, CS Susanth, Dr Selim Reza and Dr Sapol also shared their ideas for promoting bamboo bioresources to a large extent.
It was also attended by scientists, researchers, staff of IBSD and SABF including local entrepreneurs from Manipur.
During the programme, bamboo saplings were distributed to farmers and bamboo products displayed.
