Imphal, September 18 2022:
Denouncing the exclusion of historical Khurai Ahongpung from the revenue land record of the state, Leihoumee Salai Ahongpung Thougal Lup organised a public meeting on the topic of "Reconstruction Ahongpung Laiphamland" at Lai Awangba Shanglen, Khurai on Sunday.
During the meeting, various resolutions were adopted including immediate restriction on Teli denizens, residing on both sides of Khurai Ahongpung and calling the area as Telipati; forwarding a copy of the same to the Department concerned in writing; for the government to evict the encroachers, if any, found residing along Khurai Ahongpung Teli Leikai to Ima Soubom Lairembi and on both sides of Ahongpung to Lamlong Keithel route; and lastly, renovation of the historical sacred sites of Ima Soubom Lairembi, Sana Khongnang Amadi Khurai Ahongpung.
Presiding over the meeting, Ahongpung Thougal Lup president Cn Nandalal Angomcha recounted that in 1924, the then Manipur king Churachand brought in 4/5 Telis from Bihar.
The Teli soon increased in number and Ahonpung was called Telipati.
The site of Ima Soubom Lairembi at Ahongpung was named "Kali Mandir 1872" and a wall was constructed around the sacred site to install temples belonging to Mahadeva, Hanuman and Radha Krishna, leaving no place for worship of Ima Soubom Lairembi.
A case for withdrawing these structures is still being fought in the Court.
The Court imposed a status quo, preventing the original inhabitants from entering the place.
All of these indicated how others are taking advantage of the weakness of Meitei community.
Thus, to prevent this situation from worsening any further, efforts will be made to bring about a new image of Khurai Ahongpung from today onwards, he said.
The meeting was attended by Maichou Ningsing Lup president Maibam Tomba Khuman as chief guest, Awang Soibam Leikai Yaipha Lamjing Lup president Lupopati Leima as president and Lairembi Sintha Lup Ahongei M Meena Leima as guest of honour, along with leaders of other religious organisations of Manipur including Umang Lai Kanba Lup (UKAL) .
