Krishi Vigyan Kendra Bishnupur District under the aegis of Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Department of Agricultural Research & Education organised the "National campaign on Poshan Abhiyan & tree plantation" at its office premises in Utlou yesterday.
It was attended by Utlou GP Pradhan, N Sarat Singh; former Union Minister & Chairman KVK Bishnupur, Th Chaoba Singh; District Program Officer, ICDS Cell, Bishnupur, Th Shantibala Devi and Dr Kh Brajamani, Head, KVK Bishnupur, as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Th Chaoba Singh stated that Poshan Abhiyan is Government of India's flagship programme to improve nutritional outcomes for children, adolescent Girls, pregnant women and lactating mothers.

He also urged all to promote a healthy lifestyle and avoid contraband items like talab, khaini and other tobacco products.
Later, vegetable seeds and tree saplings were distributed to selected beneficiaries.
In the technical session, resource persons, Bandana Ningombam and Dr Sakhen Sorokhaibam of KVK Bishnupur delivered lectures on the topics, "Nutri Garden & Nutritional value of millets and their role on human health" and "Bio-fortified varieties" respectively.
THOUBAL
KVK Thoubal also organised "Poshan Abhiyan & tree plantation" yesterday at its campus in Thoubal.
It was attended by Department of Horticulture & Soil Conservation Thoubal, District Horticulture Officer, M Nabachandra; KVK Thoubal Head, Dr Zeshmarani Sarangthem and KVK Thoubal SMS Agronomy, N Tomba as presidium members.
In the programme, RK Lembisana, SMS (H/Sc) KVK Thoubal and Dr Chuwang Hijam delivered lectures on "Nutrition Gardening, bio-fortified crop varieties".
Later, tree saplings were planted at Khangabok Part II, Anganwadi Centre and KVK Thoubal campus.
UKHRUL
As a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, KVK Office Ukhrul on Saturday observed "Poshan Abhiyan cum tree plantation" at Hungpung village, Ukhrul.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Solei Luiram, Head of KVK Ukhrul, stated that the main objective of the mission is to reduce the level of under-nutrition and enhance the nutritional status of children in the country.
"To ensure community mobilisation and bolster people's participation, the month of September is celebrated every year as Poshan Maah across the country", he added.
Dr Solei also assured that the Department will provide high quality seeds to increase crop yield and become self-sufficient in agricultural crops.
Ex-ADC member, Yangmi Shimray distributed packet seeds and maize to the participants.
Over 60 women farmers attended the programme.
