IBSD celebrates World Bamboo Day

Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD) celebrated World Bamboo Day at Imphal in collaboration with Manipur State Bamboo Mission, South Asia Bamboo Foundation and North East Center for Technology Application and Reach (NECTAR) .
As per a statement, the programme was addressed by chief guest, Dr RK Ranjan Singh, Union Minister of State, Ministry of External Affairs and Education.
He emphasized on exploring bamboo diversity and scientific interventions for developing products/processes and improving the socio-economic status of the region.
During the programme, Professor Pulok K Mukherjee, Director, IBSD highlighted the research initiatives of IBSD for the development of bioresources and boosting the bioeconomy of the region.
He mentioned the research work being performed using bamboo bioresources of this region.
Sh Kamesh Salam, CEO, South Asia Bamboo Foundation highlighted the inception of World Bamboo Day.
He underscored the initiatives of bamboo promoters all over the globe by organizing various activities to mark this day.
The programme was joined online by many speakers from different countries, namely, including Ming (Jack) Huang, National Chung Cheng University, Taiwan; Mark Sultan Bambuhay, Philippines; Bernice Dapaah, Ghana and Marco Piazza from Bangkok.
Many experts including including Dr Arun Kumar Sarma, Dr Lokesh Chandra Dubey, Sh CS Susanth, Dr Selim Reza and Dr Sapol also shared their ideas for promoting bamboo bioresources to a large extent.
Bamboo saplings were distributed to farmers and many bamboo products were displayed during the event.
