Students storm MOBC office

Demanding disbursement of the pend ing scholarships, students studying in different colleges affiliated to Dhanamanjuri University (DMU) and Manipur University (MU) tried to storm the office of Minorities and Other Backward Classes (MOBC) on Monday, Teams of Imphal West District Police intercepted and took control of the protesting students to prevent any unwanted incidents.
Later, some of the students were allowed to proceed and meet MOBC officials.
Speaking to newsper sons on the sidelines, a student named Oinam Premdash Khuman recounted that multiple memorandums had been submitted to the Chief Minister, the Education minister and the director of MOBS requesting disbursal of scholarships of the students.
However, no action has been taken up till date.
Conveying the details of the meeting with MOBC officials, Premdash said that scholarships have been delayed due to non-release of funds by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
The money for the scholarship is to be cleared by the Ministry of Finance.
However, the non-clearance of scholarships only for the students of Manipur compared to other states, is disregarding of students of the state.
Although the CM and the authority concerned have also urged many times, the inaction as raised the question whether Manipur is being looked down for being a small state.
As such, he informed that the students would be filing a litigation against Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment soon.
