Bishnupur, December 19 2022:
Continuing its movement of exerting pressure on the government for sending the requisite recommendation for inclusion of Meetei/Meitei in the ST list, Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee Manipur (STDCM) submitted a memorandum to Oinam A/C MLA I Nalini by visiting her residence on Monday.
During the visit, banners inscribed with 'Send requisite recommendation by Manipur government for inclusion of Meetei/Meitei in the ST list', 'We demand constitutional safeguard' and 'ST Status Demand is the most important issue of indigenous Meetei/Meitei' were used.
After accepting the memorandum, MLA I Nalini said that the demand of STDCM is legitimate and is for the welfare of all.
There is nothing wrong in returning to ST status and it will surely help in bringing harmony among the communities.
She also assured of extending all possible help when the issue is brought up in the assembly session.
According to STDCM executive member Laishram Romesh, the demand will neither affect nor violate the rights of any other communities in the state.
The elected representatives should acknowledge the demand and the government should send the recommendation required for inclusion of Meetei/Meitei in the ST list to the centre at the earliest, he said.
