Biswajit assures yarn bank for Thongju AC

Power minister Thongam Biswajit has assured of setting up a yarn bank for Thongju assembly constituency so that weavers of his constituency could save their valuable time by avoiding trips to yarn shops in the market.
The minister made the announcement at the inauguration of a common facilitation centre for Keirao Block Cluster opened under Development Commissioner, National Handloom Development Programme (NHDP) with Manipur Apex Handloom Weavers and Handicrafts Artisans Cooperative Society Limited (AWAS), Paona Keithel as the implementing agency.
Minister Biswajit and AWAS president N Roni-ka attended the event as chief guest and president respectively while Imphal East deputy commissioner Khumanthem Diana, Weaver Service Centre, Imphal deputy director Harakanta Baro and National Handicraft Development Corporation Limited Imphal officer in-charge (marketing) Y Shantikumar were present as guests of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Biswajit highlighted various initiatives taken up by the government to provide market facility to the weavers including doorstep collection of products during the height of Covid-19 pandemic.
There are also policies to make available yarns at mill gate price, he said.
Observing that weavers loss valuable time in going to the market to buy yarn, the minister assured of setting up a yarn bank exclusively for Thongju assembly constituency with free home delivery service.
