VDF personnel give final salute to Premananda

VDF personnel of the state on Monday offered final salute to (late) VDF member Ningombam Premananda, who died during an anti-poppy cultivation drive carried out in Phaisi village, Chandel district as part of government's 'War on Drug' campaign.
A mass condolence meeting was organised by Thoubal District VDF Welfare Association along with VDF associations of other districts under the aegis of All Manipur VDF Welfare Association (AMVDFWA) at the birthplace of Premananda near Thoubal Okram ground on Monday.
The meeting which attended by VDF personnel, All Manipur VDF Guardians' Association (AMVDFGA) representatives, members of JAC formed in connection with death of N Premananda, local clubs and organisations was marked by paying of floral tributes to the photo of Premananda.
As part of the programme, Imphal West Traffic Wing handed over Rs 10,000 to the family of the deceased.
Tribute was also paid by Imphal West district VDF Band Party on the occasion.
Speaking at the solemn event, AMVDFWA president 0 Bijoi informed that 10,050 VDF personnel are presently performing their duties across the state.
After repeated requests of the VDF personnel, the government took up some welfare measures for them.
Very soon a verdict will be given by Manipur Human Rights Commission with regard to service of VDF, he said and expressed that the decree will bring positive changes in their life.
On the other hand, AMVDFWA joint secretary and Thoubal District VDF Welfare Association president Md Idris Shah mentioned that the programme was organised to pay last respect to Premananda for his supreme sacrifice while performing his duty, which has become the pride for all VDF personnel.
AMVDFGA president Indrani and Thoubal Municipal Council Ward No 1 former councillor O Inaotombi were also present as the presidium members.
