George Surte coronated as village chief

Kakching, February 13 2023:
George Surte Thamdok, soil of Rengthu Surte and (late) SK Somtit, has been coronated as the new chief of Betuk Sangreng village, Chandel district in a ceremony held at the village on Monday.
Marked by performance of cultural songs & dances and traditional feast, the programme was attended by Chandel MLA Ss Olish Lam-kang as chief guest, Lamkang Naga Kver Kunpun (LNKK) president SK John Moningam as president and Autonomous District Council, Chandel chief executive officer Seiminthang Lenthang as guest of honour.
Numerous village chiefs, religious leaders, CSOs and villagers also attended the event.
As part of the ceremony, the newly appointed chief welcomed the attendees and presented traditional gifts to various individuals.
Similarly, the attendees also blessed and presented gifts to the new chief and his wife D Golda Lamkang.
During the programme, George Surte's predecessor Jv Ramsing handed over the official document to him, while LNKK president SK John Moningam administered the customary oath to him.
St Paul's Parish Liwachaning parish priest reverend father Aloysius Seiba was the blessing minister of the event.
The ceremony ended with the new chief and his wife D Golda Lamkang leading the customary couple dance and a grand feast.
