Jiribam, February 13 2023:
A large number of villagers came out to the streets on Sunday demanding a permanent Army camp at Goakhal under Borobekra Sub-division of Jiribam district.
After receiving information about a possible relocation of the 37th Assam Rifles camp from Goakhal, the villagers also staged a sit-in in front of the AR camp urging the Government and authorities concerned to not shift the army camp from the area.
At around 5.30 pm yesterday, irate villagers also reportedly dismantled two bridges in Goakhal and Chhotobekra.

Later, a police team led by SDPO Jiribam arrived at the site to calm down the crowd and hear their demands.
It may be mentioned that the local MLA, Md Achab Uddin has reportedly sent a letter to Dr Sambit Patra, BJP Northeast in-charge, informing him about the matter and wishes of the people to not relocate the AR camp from the area.
