Sports can fight drug menace: Ibobi

Under the aegis of United Moijing Football Club (UMFC)/Thoubal Moijing, the first 9-A-Side State Level Men s Open Football Tournament 2023, also known as "UMFC Cup", kicked off on Monday at Moijing playground in Thoubal district.
The inaugural function of the UMFC cup which is being participated by 16 teams, was attended by former chief minister and Thoubal MLA O Ibobi Singh and UMFC Moijing president Kh Serajuddin as chief guest and president respectively while Sugnu MLA Kangujam Ranjit Singh, District Panchayat Parishad Thoubal president Md Abdul Warish and District Football Association Thoubal president Mutum Mani Singh were present as guests of honour.
Speaking at the function, MLA 0 Ibobi stressed that as the upcoming generation are the future builders of the nation there is the need to make this generation physically and intellectually fit.
The only means to bring them to this path is by keeping them away from drugs and encouraging participation in games and sports, Ibobi said while informing that land for construction of UMFC office building will be purchased adjacent to the playground and construction work would start very soon.
On the opening day of the tournament, Asika FC Lilong beat NYFC Thoubal 3-0 in Group A match with two of the goals scored by Taj Khan and another by Nawaz Khan.
Royal FC Lilong and IDYC Hayellabuk of group C will play the first match on Tuesday while Muji FC Sora and MYC Lilong of group D will lock horns in the second match.
