JAC demands justice in Nonganba death case

Imphal, February 13 2023:
The joint action committee (JAC) formed in connection with the death of Akoijam Nonganba has demanded authority concerned to bring out the truth behind the death within 24 hours.
Ak Nonganba, s/o Ak Laingam, former minister of road and transport, of Kwakeithel Konjeng Awang Leikai was found dead at Changoubung under kangpokpi police station on Sunday.
Addressing media persons in this regard at Awang Konjeng Youth Organisation, JAC convenor Thounaojam Ashalata informed that Nonganba was found dead at Changoubung on February 12 after he left home along with his girlfriend Thokchom Sonia d/o Th Shanti of Kwakeithel Thokchom Leikai on February 11 .
Sonia picked up Nonganba from his house and the duo left in a red colour Swift car (MN01S 0866).Though Nonganba did not return that day, Sonia came home.
Therefore, arresting Sonia and subjecting her to interrogation could lead to vital clues behind the death, Ashalata said.
She further informed that since there were many injury marks on the body of Nonganba, it is clear that he was killed.
The body of Nonganba is presently at RIMS mortuary and the family members and JAC will not claim it until the truth behind the death is brought out by the authority concerned, she said, while adding that the JAC is demanding the government to bring out the truth within 24 hours.
Meanwhile, Sonia has been picked up by Kangpokpi police for investigation.
However, no formal arrest has been made till the time of filling this report.
