Imphal, February 13 2023:
Loumee Shinmi Apunba Lup (LOUSAL) has called for strict action against the District Agriculture Officer (DAO) of Thoubal district under the Manipur Conservation of Paddy Land and Wetland Act 2014 .
This statement was made by Mutum Churamani, president, LOUSAL during a press conference held this afternoon at Manipur Press Club.
Speaking to media persons, Mutum Churamani stated that the DAO has no authority to grant permission for excavation of agricultural land under the Manipur Conservation of Paddy Land and Wetland Act 2014 .
He continued to share that roughly a week back, a joint team from Thoubal and Langthabal inspected the agricultural fields of Phundrei Langthel Mamang.

Herein, the team found that the topsoil, which is the most fertile layer of soil, of around 50 'paris' of agricultural land had been excavated.
He pointed out the lack of fertility of the remainder of the soil and added that the fertility will not increase significantly even if measures are employed to rectify this situation.
Further, he maintained that this will affect the fertility of the surrounding areas and they will also witness a decrease in soil fertility.
Consequently, this will lead to a reduction in yield of crops, he lamented.
Mutum Churamani went on to claim that a few days ago there was another instance of agricultural land excavation and upon questioning the individuals carrying out the excavation, it was reportedly revealed that they had received permission from DAO, Thoubal to carry out this activity.
As such, LOUSAL has demanded the releavnt authority to take up appropriate action against the Thoubal DAO.
