DGP highlights importance of financial literacy

DGP Manipur Peter Doungel has said that it is important to impart financial literacy knowledge to everyone so that people could keep their money safely and utilise in a judicious manner.
P Doungel stated this at the launch of Financial Literacy Week of the RBI cum 'Run for financial literacy' programme jointly organised by RBI Imphal branch and Athletic Association of Manipur.
P Doungel attended as chief guest of the launch of Financial Literacy Week cum 'Run for financial literacy' held at RBI Imphal office, Lilashing Khongnangkhong, here, on Monday.
The event was also attended by Imphal West deputy commissioner Th Kirankumar, RBI general manager (OIC) Thotngam Jamang and NABARD general manager (OIC) Guite.
Addressing the gathering, P Doungel said that it is important for every citizen in the country to use money properly and they should also have knowledge on keeping their money safe and sound.
He thanked RBI for organising awareness on financial literacy every year while maintaining that majority of the people in the country lack financial literacy knowledge.
In his speech, RBI general manager (OIC) Thotngam Jamang said that RBI has been organising financial literacy week every year since the year 2016 under different topics/themes.
The topic/theme for this year's financial literacy week is 'Good financial behaviour, your saviour' and it aims to impart financial literacy knowledge to every citizen of the country by 2025 so that people could do saving, planning, budgeting and digital finance service fully.
He said that citizens nowadays must have financial literacy knowledge in view of increasing cases of financial theft through digital platform from people who have incomplete knowledge about techno financial ecosystem.
