Imphal, August 21 2022:
Local residents of Kakwa area on Sunday organised a sit-in protest demanding appropriate action against Saina Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS) founder and MD for allegedly raping a student.
The protestors also took out a march and gathered at residence of Thongju MLA and minister Thongam Biswajit urging him to pay attention to the demand and deliver justice to the rape victim.
Interacting with media persons, Longjam Roshni, a Meira Paibi leader, strongly condemned the rape incident and demanded the authority to make public the forensic science and medical test report at the earliest.
The series of events that led to the incident and drugging the victim clearly indicate forced elopement and outraging modesty of the student, she said, while condemning the police department for not arresting the prime accused and his accomplices.
Meanwhile, the victim family has negated the statement made by a woman, who claimed as the younger sister of the prime accused.
Elder sister of the victim told the media that there was no romantic relationship between the prime accused and the victim.
They are trying to mislead the public by circulating a photo, which was cut out from a group photo shot during a study tour of the institution in Goa.
Another photo in circulation showing the moment before bringing the victim home was taken after coercion.
She asked the family of the accused to stop circulating such fabricated photos and stories on social media.
She also urged the public not to accept such fabricated claims.
The sister then appealed to the student bodies, CSOs and Meira Paibi associations to help in bringing out the truth of the case.
