CADA conducts awareness programme against drugs and alcohol

The Coalition Against Drugs & Alcohol (CADA) in association with Nongpok Leingak Apunba Nupi Lup, Imphal East; Youth Organization Sporting Union, Khurai Konsam Leikai; Friends Union Club, Khurai Heigrumakhong and Khurai Konsam Leikai Apunba Khunai Kanba Nupi Lup organised a one-day awareness programme at Ima Chingjaroibi Sanglen located at Khurai Konsam Leikai yesterday.
The awareness programme was attended by Yumlembam Mema, president, Nongpok Leingak Apunba Nupi Lup, IE; Hijam Priyokumar, president, CADA; Leimaram Rajen, Pradhan, Khurai Konsam Leikai GP; Nongmaithem Somorendro, president, Friends Union Club; Yaikhom Biken, former secretary, Youth Organization Sporting Union, Khurai Heigrumakhong and Wahengbam Tharo, advisor, Khurai Konsam Leikai Apunba Khunai Kanba Nupi Lup as presidium members.
Meanwhile, Khangembam Anandi, advisor, Apunba Manipur Kanba Ima Lup (AMKIL) graced the event as a resource person.
Speaking as the resource person, Khangembam Anandi stated that for more than 50 years women of the State have poured their efforts in curtailing the sale and abuse of alcohol.
As such, the Government cannot sit idle in this matter, she added.
Hijam Priyokumar also addressed the gathering and stated that children are being negatively influenced by the normalization of use of tobacco and other drugs by adults in their family.
He also pointed out the trend of elders in the family allowing the abuse of alcohol in events like marriages etc.
He called for the people's support in putting a stop to the abuse of drugs and alcohol in the State.
In order to solve this drug issue faced by youths of Manipur, it is the duty of every citizen of the State to contribute their bit in curtailing the abuse of drugs, he said.
