Imphal, August 21 2022:
Raising strong objection over the failure of the YAS Department to conduct selection trial for the 21st National Junior Wushu Championship, which will be held from September 1 to 6 in Calicut, Kerala, parents and guardians of state Wushu players staged a sit-in protest at Palace Compound here on Sunday.
Interacting with the media at the protest venue, one of the parents informed that they came across media reports of Wushu Committee Manipur conducting selection trial for the national championship.
However, the committee is not recognised by Wushu Association of India (WAI) and is not authorised to conduct trial for the championship.
The committee is run by a handful of people led by its president Kh Gojendro.
A sub-junior player of the state had also faced rejection from a recent national championship after the committee conducted selection trial and sent him for the championship, the parent said.
Expressing concern over the situation, the parents drew attention of the chief minister and the sports minister to intervene into the matter and entrust YAS department to conduct the selection trial under the supervision of an observer from WAI.
