Rally denounces alleged rape

Imphal, August 21 2022:
A protest march was taken out today from Kakwa Lamdaibung to different locations of Thongju Constituency, denouncing the alleged rape of a student of Saina Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS) by the founder cum managing director of the institute Dr Surjitkumar Mangang recently.
During the rally which began from 1 pm, slogans were raised demanding justice for the alleged victim.
Speaking to media persons, one of the protesters stated that the victim was raped by Surjitkumar after forcing her to drink a cold drink mixed with sleeping pills.
Saying that three other persons - Sonia Yambem, Laishram Nonibala and Md Wajid are co-accused of the rape case, he urged the State Government to deliver justice to the victim so that such incidents of 'crime against women' doesn't recur.
The protester decried that the State Government has not been arresting any of the accused and co-accused of the rape case even after a complaint was lodged at Imphal West Women police station.
He also said that the report of the forensic test of the victim is not yet known.
