15th State Level Pineapple Festival concludes

The two-day 15th State level Pineapple Festival held at Dr Kalam Ground in Churachandpur district concluded yesterday by holding a beauty contest Pineapple Queen as the main attraction.
The valedictory function was graced by Naoriya Pakhanglakpa AC MLA S Kebi Devi, Moirang AC MLA Thongam Shanti, Henglep AC MLA Letzamang Haokip, Saikul AC MLA Kimneo Hangsing, SDPO Moirang L Shanti-kumar Singh and members of Thangjing Area Chiefs Association.
Distribution of best farmer's awards and holding of Pineapple Queen were the main events of the programme.
The best farmer's award was given to Lamhoih from Khousabung which carried a cash incentive of Rs 50,000 and a certificate while the second and thrid places were won by Irine Chinneihthieng from Bungion (Rs 40,000 and a certificate) and Hatchin from Molvom village (Rs 30,000 and a certificate) respectively.
The title of Pineapple Queen, on the other hand, was given to Nemnunhoi alias Sana Khongsai of Lhungtin village, Saikul sub-division as she won the beauty pageant while Ningjaikim Baite and Pinky Devi were declared 1st runner-up and 2nd runner-up respectively.
Prizes were also given to six sub-title winners of the beauty pageant.
Speaking at the event, S Kebi stated that the number of drug addicts in Manipur is rising gradually though the State Government under the leadership of Chief Minister has been undertaking an extensive campaign against drug abuse.
Stating that a collective effort is required to defeat the drug menace as the State Government alone couldn't do it, the MLA urged all to contribute in the War on Drugs campaign at their capacity.
The MLA also stated that the pineapple grown in Manipur has unique flavour amd taste.
Urging all farmers in hill areas to avoid poppy plantation but plant suitable crops or fruits so as to make Manipur self-sufficient in terms of food production, S Kebi said that the Government will extend all possible assistance to farmers to make the War on Drug campaign a success.
