Need to save the youth from death trap of drugs: CADA

Coalition Against Drugs & Alcohol (CADA) in association with Nongpok Leingak Apunba Nupi Lup, Imphal East; Youth Organisation Sporting Union, Khurai Konsam Leikai; Friends Union Club, Khurai Heigrumakhong; and Khurai Konsam Leikai Apunba Khunai Kanba Nupi Lup organised a one-day discussion programme on 'effects of drugs on the society, women and children and role of public in preventing this evil' at Ima Chingjroibi Shanglen, Khurai Konsam Leikai on Saturday afternoon.
The programme was attended by Nongpok Leingak Apunba Nupi Lup president Yumlembam Mema; CADA president Hijam Priyokumar; Khurai Konsam Leikai GP pradhan Leimaram Rajen; Friends' Union Club president Nongmaithem Somorendro; Youth Organisation Sporting Union, Khurai Heigrumakhong former secretary Yaikhom Biken; and Khurai Konsam Leikai Apunba Khunai Kanba Nupi Lup advisor Wahengbam Tharo as presidium members.
Apunba Manipur Kanba Ima Lup (AMKIL) advisor Khangembam Anandi spoke as one of the resource persons.
During the programme, the speakers highlighted the degrading effects of alcohol/drugs/tobacco on the society, families and the individuals, especially amongst young men and women, many of whom are often underage and married women.
They also urged for formulation of a strong and strict law to combat this evil, while stressing the need for awarding strict punishment of those involved m the drug/alcohol business, instead of covering up their crimes and letting the drug lords go scot-free.
The speakers also highlighted the role played by Women in this regard, stating that a good mother will ensure their kids to grow up to become capable leaders/members of the society.
They then urged for collective efforts of the people including local clubs and Meira Paibi in saving the society and state from the clutches of these harmful substances, a press release by CADA Information & Publicity secretary Khundongbam Anand informed.
