Imphal, September 14 2026:
Even as sit-in protests were held at schools demanding the Government to update the National Register of Citizens, the JFD Task Force locked two Government offices today.
The institutions which were locked include the office of the Manipur Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board at Takyel and Block Development Officer's office at Heingang, Imphal East.
The offices were locked as a part of the JFD's continued campaign which it launched recently encouraging Government employees to refrain from attending offices.
The Campaign for Just and Fair Delimitation (JFD) has been demanding the Government to take concrete steps to update the NRC with 1951 as the base-year.
Spearheading the campaign, its students wing also held protest demonstrations at the Wangkhei High School and Kakching Higher Secondary School today.
During the demonstrations, the students held placards that read "No NRC, No Census; No IDP Settlement, No census" etc .
At the Wangkhei High School, the student protesters demanded that the Government make 1951 as the base year and update the NRC before census 2027 operations.
