Imphal, September 14 2026: Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand has claimed that BJP is the only political party which has been working to restore peace in Manipur and reunite different communities in the aftermath of the May 3, 2023 violence.

Khemchand today inaugurated two newly constructed rooms-- "Atal E-Pao Shang" and "Atal Loushing Pukei"-- at Thambal Shanglen, and opened a workshop on BJP's social media.

Speaking at the opening session of the workshop, the Chief Minister stated that several political parties have been portraying BJP in a very bad light by attributing the May 3, 2023 violence to the party but it is only BJP which has been working to restore peace and normalcy in the State.

Many political parties do not want the crisis to come to an end or create a stable Manipur.

They are only good at making criticisms.

Those parties which do not have any vision for a stable Manipur cannot be thinking for their home State, Khemchand said.

Recalling that there was a strong and sustained mass movement in pursuit of the Inner Line Permit System and there were casualties during the movement, the Chief Minister asserted that it was the BJP Government which respected the people's wish and introduced ILPS in the State.

He went on to claim that the ongoing demand for updating NRC before census was already listed in the BJP's election manifesto.

Moreover, the Manipur Legislative Assembly adopted a resolution on August 5, 2022 on updating the NRC after the same resolution was moved by then Chief Minister N Biren, Khemchand said.

No organisation demanded for NRC in 2022.It was BJP which pushed for NRC in the interest of Manipur and its future, the Chief Minister claimed.

Notwithstanding all the good deeds done by BJP, people have certain resentments against BJP because of the widespread violence which broke out on May 3, 2023, he said.

People blaming BJP for the violent crisis is understandable given the fact that BJP is in power even though BJP did not bring about the crisis, Khemchand said.

Nonetheless the BJP Government has been working relentlessly to restore free movement of communities to each other's areas, he said.

Manipur is a State inhabited by 36 communities and the BJP Government has been working on the common interests of all the communities, Khemchand continued.

Saying that it is the age of social media, the Chief Minister called upon BJP youth to take key roles in informing people about BJP Government's development activities and efforts to restore peace and normalcy in the State.

He also called upon the youth to work collectively in order to create a strong India and a strong Manipur.

He further called upon all BJP workers to work hard and collectively so that BJP wins more seats in the next Assembly election and retains power.

BJP Manipur Pradesh president and Rajya Sabha Member A Sharda said that BJP Manipur Pradesh general secretary P Premananda Meitei has been appointed as coordinator of BJP IT and social media cells.

Moreover, BJP Manipur Pradesh vice president N Nimbus has been appointed BJP's social media in-charge, she announced.

BJP MLAs Kongkham Robindro, Th Basantakumar, Dr Usham Deben and Kh Raghumani too attended the social media workshop.
