A team of the United Naga Council (UNC) led by its president Gaidon Kamei met the visiting Union Minister of State, PMO, Dr Jitendra Sigh and RN Ravi, Centre's Interlocutor on Indo-Naga political dialogue in Imphal and submitted a memorandum apprising and urging them to do something about the suffering of the innocent villagers in the military operations taken up after the June 4 ambush at Chandel district .
The United Naga Council condemned the ambush near Paraolon village in Chandel district, killing 18 personnel and injuring 11 others of 6 Dogra Regiment.
"We share the grief and sorrow of the bereaved family members and pray for the departed souls to rest in peace and wish speedy recovery of all those injured personnel," the United Naga Council memorandum said.
According to the UNC, there has been a constant threat to derail the on-going hard earned Indo-Naga Peace process by State and non-State actors in Manipur taking undue advantage of the pending Indo-Naga political settlement.
The United Naga Council said it seriously views the physical harassment and detention of 14 innocent Naga villagers of Duthang Anal Naga village on June 5 in the post ambush operation launched by the Indian Army.
"We urge the Government of India and the Indian Army to refrain from harassing the peace loving innocent people and to protect their life and property.
"Our adversaries have been ceaselessly orchestrating maximum disturbances and violence in cease fire coverage areas which is a menace to our peaceful environment.
Naga people will not tolerate any form of violence perpetrated by both State and non-State actors in Naga areas," it added.
The UNC leaders said that after a patient hearing, the Central leaders re-assured the UNC team that peace process between the Government of India and NSCN will continue and no situation will be allowed to disturb the ongoing process for political settlement.
The UNC delegates also drew the attention of the visiting Union leaders to the military atrocities and also to take up every possible measures to save the lives and properties of the villagers of Paraolon.
