Imphal, June 11 2015 :
Expressing deep concern on Thursday the North East Dialogue Forum (NEDF) condemned the bomb blast at Moreh on Wednesday night.
The blast occurred at a spot about 150 metres away from the Moreh Police Station and about 100 metres away from the Assam Rifles camp, NEDF said in a statement which added that during the blast the security personnel were conducting frisking and checking in the area which is fully covered by the security forces, it said.
NEDF acknowledges that the bomb was strategically planted so as to avoid civilian casualties, it said, adding, "The question is who had entered the area and planted the bomb.
Why did security forces and intelligence fail to get the information on such attacks? What is the intention of such powerful bomb blast? Who can detonate such a bomb in the area which is always under tight security?" It said people have been extremely traumatized because of the June 4 ambush and the subsequent counter-insurgency operation being launched by the Indian armed forces in Chandel district.
Indian Government has the full responsibility for protecting the civilians, the forum said, adding that if the Government cannot protect the people in Manipur, people should start a debate of their own to find out a political option.
"We should not forget that we are already reeling under the military rule empowered by Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 which gives absolute powers to the members of the Indian Army.
We call upon the international community to help the civilian population to protect themselves from such war crimes because India has denied recognizing our concern and sorrow," NEDF added.
