Imphal, June 11 2015 :
Members of Lamlongei Yaipha Thouni Nupi Marup (LYTNM) today made an abortive attempt to storm the Mantripukhri office of Forest Department.
They were demanding an immediate halt to encroachment and construction of several structures within Langol Reserved Forest area.
One LYTNM member said that Forest Department officials assured to send a report to relevant authority in order to dismantle the structures being constructed within the reserved forest area.
As the deadline set earlier for dismantling the structures lapsed, a group women tried to dismantle the structures but they were stopped by the police OC concerned who requested for some time.
In contravention of the orders issued by the National Green Tribunal, many structures are being constructed within the reserved forest area after felling trees allegedly at the behest of Chief Minister O Ibobi, alleged LYTNM secretary Th Ratna.
The State Government ought to find an alternative site for resettling residents of Lei Ingkhol rather resettling them in forest area, she added.
