Imphal, June 11 2015 :
A 33-year-old alleged rape survivor has urged the authority concerned to punish the accused according to the law of the land at the earliest.
Speaking to reporters at a press conference held at the office of ACOAM Lup Kangleipak, the woman said that the accused has walked free as he has got bail in the case.
The mother-of-two said that the incident happened in the early part of January this year.
Taking advantage of absence of other family members in their house, her neighbour and relative Ch Lokeshor (23) s/o Suren Meitei of Andro bazar sneaked into their house and raped her.
When the victim told the accused that she would reveal the incident to her husband and the village authority, the accused pleaded her not to do so saying that he would not repeat the mistake in future.
Thinking that her revelation to her husband or any other family member about the incident would result to a big brawl, the woman concealed the matter for some months.
However, her silence further encouraged the accused to repeat the crime.
After a gap of three months, Lokeshor allegedly tried to rape the woman on April 25 again.
However, she somehow managed to escape from the clutches of the accused and narrated the whole incident to her husband, the woman said.
The enraged husband went directly to the accused's house and enquired about the incident.
Later, the matter was discussed at a village meeting, the woman said and added that no resolution could be however taken in the meeting as the accused fled the meeting venue.
As such, her family informed the matter to the police and Imphal East women police station filed FIR No 20 (05) on May 6 at around 3 pm, the rape survivor said.
However, no action has been taken against the accused so far as he had taken a pre-arrest anticipatory bail.
Taking part at the press conference, Kangla Ima Lup president RK Sanahanbi said, "We do not want this sort of crime to happen any more.
It is a shame to our community.
Severe punishments should be given so that the accused will not forget his wrong deeds.
We also want the agencies to take the right action against such crime" .
ACOAM Lup representative Kh Somorendro said that women are no more safe in Manipur.
Stringent punishment or at least 10 years jail term must be awarded to the accused of such crimes, he opined.
