LIC agents join country-wide 'Agent Rest Week' agitation

Life Insurance Agents' Association Imphal staged a sit-in protest at Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) Office Complex located at Khoyathong today as part of the 4-day country-wide 'Agent Rest Week' agitation.
It may be noted that today marks the fourth and last day of 'Agent Rest Week' protest which was launched by the Joint Action Committee, Life Insurance Agents Federation of India to put forth the various demands of LIC policy holders, agents and Chief Life Insurance Advisors (CLIA) .
Speaking by the sideline of the protest, Sagolsem Shantikumar, president, Silchar Division Council, LIC Agent Federation of India shared that the agitation was launched on September 1 with the donning of black badges and will continue till the end of November.
As a part of this widespread agitation, the 4-day 'Agent Rest Day' protest was launched on October 11 with the ceasing of all office work, he said.

Highlighting the first demand to increase the bonus rate assured at the time of policy maturation, he stated that policy holders are responsible for keeping the LIC as well as its employees and agents in business but the assured bonus rate has been decreasing steadily year after year.
The demands for policy holders include decreasing the interest rate of loans and other financial transactions, to facilitate revival of policies after a lapse of 5 years or more, to refrain from transferring the amount claimed by policy holders into social security schemes, to introduce a rating system to receive feedback from policy holders, removal of GST levied on insurance policies by the Indian Government and for the policy holders to be treated with dignity by the staff at LIC offices, he maintained.
Aside from this, separate demands have been made for agents, he said, and some of these are: to increase the gratuity payable to agents; to launch group mediclaim, contributory provident fund and contributory pension scheme; increase of term insurance; introduce benefits for direct agents and to provide the offsprings of agents with educational loans among others.
Lastly, he shared that over 12 lakh agents across the country had raised these demands and launched the agitation.
