Man behind new outfit arrested

Imphal West district police and commandos arrested a man who served a number of demand letters and threats in the name of a new organization to various Government departments, private firms and media houses.
Briefing media persons at his office today, Imphal West SP Ksh Shivakanta said that they received information from their own source on September 20 about the formation of new underground organization and the said organization has been serving demand letters and threats to various Government institutions, hospitals, press (media) and others in the name of the newly formed group.
After thorough analysis of technical intelligence and through human intelligence, the person behind serving demand letters and threats was identified and his whereabouts was zeroed down to Kwakeithel Haorakchambi area, the SP said.
Immediately, a team of Imphal West commandos rushed to Kwakeithel Haorakchambi area and conducted cordon and search operation in some suspected houses.
During the search operation, an unknown person was found in a suspicious manner in the rented house of one Samjetsabam Nandalal.
During spot verification, the unknown person identified himself as Paikhomba Wahengbam alias Yohenba Mangang (30) s/o (L) Imocha of Kumbi Mayai Leikai, presently staying in the rented house of Samjetsabam Nandalal of Kwakeithel Haorakchambi.
On preliminary interrogation, Paikhomba disclosed that he is the person who formed the new outfit.
He also disclosed that he had served demand letters in the name of the outfit to all Government affiliated colleges under Manipur University, Director of RIMS, Director of JNIMS, Director of Manipur Health Services, Director AYUSH, various electronic and print media and admins of various social media pages through postal service.
Further investigation is going on to arrest his associates, if there are any, at the earliest.
Altogether 103 demand letters in the name of the outfit, one laptop, one printer, one moped, one car, one wallet containing driving license, one ATM card, a sum of Rs 6,000 in Indian currency, 2000 Korean Won, 110 Bangladesh Taka, 700 Myanmar Kyat, 140 Thailand Baht, one pen drive and two mobile phones were recovered from the possession of Paikhomba, according to the SP.
The SP appealed to the general public and Government institutions to inform promptly and cooperate with the police so that such activities can be stopped at the earliest.
