The 50 non-locals were convicted under Section 3 of Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation (BEFR) Act and they were made to pay a fine of Rs 500 each.
The courts further ordered them to apply and be in possession of ILP permits within 3 days or to leave the state.
Of the 50 non-locals produced, 14 were arrested during a drive carried out by Heingang PS and they were produced before the court of CJM Imphal East while Wangoi PS detained 3 non-locals, who were then produced before the Judicial Magistrate Imphal West-I, which gave the same order.
The Judicial Magistrate Imphal West-II also gave the same order on 14 non-locals including 2 women who were apprehended by a team of Sekmai PS.
On Wednesday, a combined team of City PS and Imphal PS apprehended 22 non-locals during an ILP verification drive.
They were then produced before the Court of CJM Imphal West.
The Court convicted all of them and made them to pay a fine of Rs 500, while further ordering them to either get an ILP permit within 3 days or to leave Manipur.
On the other hand, the Police Department has urged the contractors or labour contractors to ensure the labourers they have hired from outside Manipur for various projects in the state, are in possession of ILP permits and to renew the same if the validity has expired.
If anyone is found not in possession of the same during ILP verification drives, appropriate legal action will be initiated, the department cautioned.
