Imphal, October 14 2022:
Taking serious note of the extremely dusty condition of NH 37 from the point of Oriental College to New Keithelmanbi due to road widening work, which is severely affecting the residential areas along the highway and commuters, Imphal West Students' Club (IWSC), Khumbong has stated that it will be filing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) against the contractor or work agency if the issue is not addressed.
In a statement, IWSC informed that Shri Avantika Contractors Private Limited is the work agency for the NH project.
As a result of the extremely dusty condition of the road due to the project, people living alongside the highway including commuters, especially school students are facing severe inconveniences and health risks.
Many are developing respiratory problems due to daily exposure to dust particles.
The club approached the firm but they are doing nothing except for occasional and inadequate sprinkling of water.
The club then drew attention of National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL) and Manipur Pollution Control Board (MPCB) to look into the matter and take up necessary measures to ad dress the problem.
In case of the two authorities ignoring the matter, the club will file a PIL in the High Court to seek legal intervention, the statement added.
