Imphal, October 14 2022:
Staff of Manipur Tribal Development Corporation Limited (MTDC) have launched a cease work strike from Friday in protest against the decision of the state cabinet to appoint chief engineer of the corporation from other department.
Regarding the protest, MTDC Employees' Union joint secretary Maibam Milton told media persons that MTDC has staff who fulfil all the criteria to become chief engineer of the corporation but the government repeatedly appoint chief engineer from other departments.
Condemning government's decision, Milton said that the period of engagement for chief engineer is only three years but the government repeatedly appoints the same person to the post.
This indeed is violation of rights of the employees and the cease work strike will continue until the government revokes the decision, he added.
Maibam Milton also appealed to the government to fulfil union's long standing demand of clearing 20 months backlog salary for MTDC staff and regularisation of work-charged employees at the earliest.
