Imphal, April 29 2024:
Thawai Mirel has called upon the people of the state to observe May 3, the day when Kuki community attacked and forced Meetei families from Churachandpur, Moreh and Kangpokpi towns, as Anti-Terrorism Day.
Addressing the media at Manipur Press Club, here, on Monday, Thawai Mirel convenor Thongam Dara deplored that several innocent lives have been lost and thousands of families displaced after Kuki people attacked the indigenous Meetei community on May 3 last year.
Even though it has been almost one year, those displaced families are still staying in relief camps.
The direct attack on the Meetei community, who has been the vanguard of Manipuri civilisation, is nothing but an act of terror, he said and added that the organisation has resolved to observe the day as Anti-Terrorism Day.
He further appealed to the people to offer floral tributes to those killed in the conflict and urged local clubs and Meira Paibi groups to hold discussion sessions to explore ways to resolve the crisis.
Thawai Mirel will also organise a main function at a proper place, which will be decided soon, he added.
