Curfew relaxed for seven hours

Imphal, May 12 2023:
The indefinite curfew was relaxed for seven hours today in various districts of the State with many people venturing out of their homes as Manipur slowly makes its way back to normalcy.
Relief measures continue to be taken up and surveillance of vulnerable areas carry on with continuous deployment of forces.
So far, a total of 423 arms and 6697 ammunition have been recovered by security forces.
Aside from this, a total 339 cases have been registered in connection with the spate of violence which began on May 3 .
2759 people have left the State by air, consisting mostly of students.
With regard to reports in some local newspapers claiming that the "Government has lost to SoO cadres", the State Government has appealed against such irresponsible and uri-fortunate statements. "The Government and the security forces are at the forefront to make sure that all steps are taken to ensure the safety of the people", it added.
At this critical juncture, the State Government has also requested all political parties 'not to play politics' when the people are suffering.
As peace is slowly being restored in Manipur, a request is made to all Manipuris to help in maintaining peace and tranquility, it added.
