Relief camps facing serious issues: RDSC

Relief Data Support Centre (RDSC) has stated that the major issues most of the relief camps are facing include water scarcity, hygiene & sanitation, pregnant women, lactating mother & children under distress and need of psycho-social support from mental health professionals.
In a release, RDSC convener K Naresh Sharma mentioned that as data collected from different relief camps most of the temporary facilities are facing acute shortage of water with lack of toilet facilities another cause of concerned for the displaced people.
RDSC urged relief material providers to look into actual requirements when they reach out to aid the relief camps.

Items that are in priority in-clude water for both drinking & sanitation, firewood, under-garments, soaps, tooth paste & brush, mattresses, blankets, kitchen utensils, chilli and , first aid kits, baby food & soft toys, breakfast items, disposable cups and buckets, it informed.
RDSC noted that there is also need for categorisation of the displaced people such as pregnant women, lactat-ing mothers and children.
In most of the camps their dietary needs have been compromised and they are in distress.
Chil-dren particularly are in need of proper attention as far as their dietary needs and recreational support toys are concerned, as per the findings of RDSC.
In-spite of best efforts of volunteers, displaced people have not been able to over-come fear and pain.
Almost all of them have seen the violence in front of their own eyes.
In this regard, the need for psycho-social support from mental health professionals cannot be overlooked.
More importantly, some of the relief camps which are located in sensitive areas have request-ed the relief providers not to come in large cavalcade along with festoons, flags and news cameras, it further conveyed.
