Imphal, May 12 2023:
Universal Friend-ship Organisation (UFO) has appealed to the people to take a united stand against all attempts to disintegrate Manipur.
Speaking to newspersons at Manipur Press Club here Thursday, UFO secretary general Y Meiraba lament-ed that the ethnic clashes which began on May 3 left many dead, and many oth-ers especially the women, children and elderly strand-ed.
While the Kuki rioters were protected by armed militants, the Meitei people were left vulnerable.
All of these could be considered as a well-planned attempt to sow discord between the indigenous communities of the state.
Thus, he urged all concerned not to fall into the trap laid by the evil-doers, adding that it is the innocent civilians who are the biggest victims of the violence.
Questioning why the Kuki community demolished and burnt down thousand-year old shrines/ temples of Meitei community, Meira-ba stated that it is the Kuki community who first set fire to religious structures and not the Meitei communi-ty.
He further questioned why three structures of UFO which were meant to protect living beings and maintain peace amongst all were targeted.
It is not a right step to vent out one's frustrations and dissatisfaction over some political and social mat-ters, just because they do not have the guts to blame the government.
On top of this, the intention of the Kuki community to disin-tegrate Manipur to merge it with Mizoram and form Greater Mizoram is only adding more fuel to the flames.
Thus, he appealed to the central and state gov-ernment to look into the matter.
