Imphal, May 12 2023:
The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has claimed that the violence besieging the State is a fallout of political conspiracy hatched by a group of non-indigenous folks to break the unity and integrity of Manipur.
In a statement, COCOMI said that this group of non-indigenous who intruded into the State are not only scheming to take away the privilege given to the old Kukis who have been staying in Manipur for a long time but also to break apart the State.
Alleging that the violence seen in Manipur is not an ethnic clash but a part of political step taken up with a hidden agenda to disintegrate the State, the Committee claimed that the sequence of this political conspiracy can be seen clearly by the people.
COCOMI went on to claim that the plot to disintegrate Manipur was implemented after amassing adequate funds by this group of people to fulfil their political aspiration.
"It is only the innocent civilians belonging to both the groups who have been trapped in this cycle of violence," the Committee added.
"Many innocent people have been killed while several others have lost their properties in this clash ignited by people with vested interest," COCOMI continued and maintained that the Meeteis know the root cause of the unrest seen in the State.
"It has become crystal clear that the unfolding scenario is an outcome of the conspiracy hatched by people in power to disintegrate the State," the Committee claimed.
COCOMI has also been urging the authorities concerned to take befitting actions against the militant groups which signed a Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement with the Government for taking sides and targeting the civilians openly, it reminded.
The statement then said that COCOMI and the people of Manipur will not treat the series of violence which began on May 3 as an ethnic clash but a political conspiracy to break apart the State.
"COCOMI and the people are prepared to face the threat which challenges the unity and integrity of the State," it added.
Saying that COCOMI doesn't take anyone as their foe but respect all the communities residing in Manipur, the Committee claimed that the old Kukis in Manipur also believe in peaceful coexistence which has been validated by Hmar, Paite and other communities providing shelter to Meitei folks in hill districts and Meiteis safeguarding the tribals in the valley.
COCOMI will now emphasise on facing the people who have been plotting to disintegrate the State, the Committee said and appealed to the people of Manipur to not get car-ried away by the words of people with vested interest.
"Lets teach this group of people a befitting lesson to never put a threat on the integrity of the State again," it added.
