Systematic donation of relief items stressed

With cases of some relief camps receiving excess relief materials and some fac-ing acute shortage, the need to streamline donation and provision of essentials donated by different clubs, association and meira paibi groups for the displaced people has become the need of the hour.
There are around 40 relief camps opened in different lo-cations in Moirang and Kumbi assembly constituencies to ac-commodate people who have been displaced due to the com-munal violence.
Though clubs and organisations have been providing relief materials to the relief camps, it has come to light that some of the tempo-rary facilities are flooded with relief materials whereas many others are facing acute shortage of essential commodities.
Speaking to this daily, a volunteer in one of the relief camps conceded informed that the relief materials need to be distributed according to the number of people in a system-atic manner.
He also pointed out the need to constitute a committee for each constitu-ency and store the relief ma-terials in a place identified by the committee and distribute the materials to every relief camps as per the number in the camps.
He further suggested that MLAs of each constituency should the responsibility of constituting the committee at the earliest possible.
As observed by this daily, most of the relief camps are facing shortage of floor mats, mattresses, mattress covers, children's clothes and baby diapers.
Therefore, there is the need to provide these materials apart from the edibles to the relief camps.
Meanwhile, LDA chairman M Asnikumar inspected the relief camps opened in Bishnupur district on Thursday.
