Imphal, May 12 2023:
With reference to uneasy calm for the past few days and attacks on civilians by armed Kuki militants, the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) said that the present crisis in Manipur is a result of a pre-planned political step ini-tiated with the agenda to distort Manipur's integrity.
According to COCOMI, se-quence of events happening in the past few days made it crys-tal clear that the communities were pitted against each other to fulfil political aspiration of a handful of wealthy people who have no qualm in making inno-cent people of both the sides the sacrificial lamb.
The emerging situation has made clear that the vinlence erupted on May 3 was not a communal one but a trap laid by people belonging to some communities coming from out-side to fulfil their secret political aspiration.
These newly entered people have not only snatched rights and resources of the old Kuki people but also trying to balkanise Manipur and trouble entire people of the land.
The Meetei being a big brother, who shed blood and sweat to protect Manipur in different phases of history, fully understand the present political equation as also fuel being added by a handful of people to ignite the fire, CO-COMI said.
In view of the evolving sit-uation, COCOMI and people of Manipur will no longer deal the present crisis as a communal violence but launch intense movement to fight those trying to distort Manipur, the state-ment added.
While asserting that the com-mittee never considers any com-munity as enemy but honours all the indigenous communities of Manipur, COCOMI said efforts made by Hmar and Paite people to protect Meetei people trapped in the hills and protection of hill people by Meetei in the valley testified that both hill and valley people are brothers and have same origin.
COCOMI also declared that the committee will now con-centrate and look towards tack-ling those trying to break apart Manipur.
It also urged all the communities to identify those trying to distort Manipur and who are blood brothers of the land.
