The All Manipur Road Transport Driver's & Motor Worker's Union (AMRTD&MWU) has sought the intervention of the Security Advisor, Government of Manipur to bring back the transport vehicles stranded along the two National Highways connecting Imphal.
In a release, AMRTD&MWI informed that as a result of the present situation in the State, transport vehicles carrying essential commodities are stranded along NH-2 (Imphal-Dimapur) and NH-37 (Imphal-Jiribam) .
The association stated that about 200 trucks are stranded in Senapati district unable to reach Imphal due to lack of security cover.
The association also claimed that some miscreants tried to loot the trucks coming to Imphal in front of security personnel deployed in the area.
Highlighting that the attempt to loot the vehicles may result in injury/ death of the drivers and motor worker: AMRTD&MWI appealed to the authority concerned to pro vide adequate security cover to ensure safe passage of transport vehicles along the highways.
AMRTD&MWI also asserted that if the stranded transport vehicles are not given security coverage to their destination, the State may face severe shortage of essential commodities soon.
