Relief camp comes alive to wedding ceremony

Amid the turmoil that has plagued the entire State since May 3 last year, happiness returned on the faces of displaced folks when a relief camp hosted a wedding ceremony today.
The groom, Khoirom Oken Meitei, from Churachandpur's Khuga Tampak tied the knot with Naorem Lalita Devi of Bishnupur.
Khoirom Oken has been staying at the relief camp at Government Dance College, Palace Compound, Imphal.
His family was among hundreds who fled Churachandpur in May last year after Meiteis were attacked at Churachandpur district.
Khoirom Oken Meitei is son of Khoirom Deven Meitei and Khoirom ongbi Shanti.
The bride, Naorem Lalita Devi is daughter of Naorem Nodiya Singh and Naorem ongbi Tombi Devi of Bishnupur Block Lamkhai Ward No 6 .
The marriage ceremony, held with the Peace Committee Wangkhei as the parents' side, was attended by Wangkhei AC MLA Thangjam Arun, Imphal East Deputy Commissioner Khumanthem Diana and other district officials.
Peace Committee's convenor Mahendra Naorem said the marriage ceremony was held following the Meitei rituals.
It is the Peace Committee's duty towards the inmates at the relief camp to organise the event and take part in their joy and sorrow, he said.
At present, the relief camp houses displaced folks from various places including people from Churachandpur.
The present violent conflict which erupted on May 3, 2023 has killed over 200 and displaced more than 60,000 people.
