At first, heavily armed Kuki militants launched an attack from Khongnang Pheisabi side in Chandel towards the Manipur Rifles post in Sugnu area and it was followed by another attack from Lailoiphai and Dongyang in Churachandpur which are close to Sugnu and lie just beyond Manipur River.
A gunfight ensued after the State security forces and village volunteers retaliated.
Two houses built near Manipur River and some structures and houses at Sugnu Mayai Leikai were damaged in the firing by Kuki militants.

The exchange of fire was going on with regular intervals at the time of filing this report.
Reinforcement has been sent to Sugnu.
Speaking to the media, a woman from Sugnu claimed that the Central forces deployed at Lailoiphai and Dongyang areas didn't stop the Kuki militants from attacking Meitei villages but the village volunteers at Sugnu were chased by BSF personnel for retaliating.
