AR pays tribute, organises football tourney

Assam Rifles on Wednesday organised a wreath laying ceremony to pay homage to rifleman Alabama Ao, who laid down his life in the line of duty.
The gallant soldier laid down his life on February 14, 1962 while fighting insurgents at Shokhovi in Nagaland, informed a statement issued by PRO IGAR (East).
In another statement, the PRO said that in continuation of its resolve and determination of integrating the local youth living in remote villages into the mainstream by fuelling their aspirations through sports, Assam Rifles organised a football tournament at New Kaiphun-dai village in Tamenglong district recently under Op Sadbhavna and distributed sports items to youth of several villages.
The football tournament was conducted on February 12 and 13 at New Kaiphundai playground with participation of six teams from New Kaiphundai, Oinamlong, Lungchai and Kaimai villages.
The event was flagged off by New Kaiphundai village chief TJ Gangmei, in the presence of representatives of various local village authorities and women society members.
Post the event, sports equipment of multiple disciplines like football, volleyball, boxing, badminton were also distributed to the locals, added the PRO.
