2 civilians including one Tangkhul man found shot dead at Myanmar village

Ukhrul, February 14 2024:
Unidentified armed miscreants killed two civilians somewhere at Aungiya village in Myanmar bordering Kamjong district.
According to reliable sources, one of the deceased was a Tangkhul and he has been identified as Honpam Chithung (52) of Kumram village under Phungyar block, Kamjong but the particulars of the other deceased couldn't be established as of yet.
Sources said that the two persons were suspected to have been killed by cadres of Myanmar based KNA (B) and PDF on February 9 .
Over the development, Phungyar AC MLA K Leishiyo met DGP Rajiv Singh today and a talk is underway at the Government level to inquire about the killing of the two civilians.
When contacted by this correspondent, the family of Honpam Chinthung said that they identified him soon after the clip of two persons lying dead went viral on social media yesterday evening.
Honpam is survived by two sons, two daughters and a wife and he used to earn his living by doing small business, especially by trading buffaloes.
The family mentioned that they have no idea about the other person who was found murdered along with Honpam.
According to their observation, Honpam was shot from point blank range on his head and chest.
The family urged all to maintain peace and extend help to them in retrieving the body.
Reportedly, the duo was murdered inside Myanmar territory near Border Pillar no 102 .
Chairman of Tangkhul Naga Zingsho Longphang ( TNZL) AS Nkthan stated that they have sought assistance from the Eastern Kuki Chief Association (EKCA) of Kamjong district to retrieve the body of Honpam.
Meanwhile, Tangkhul Naga Foothills Organisation (TNFO), in a statement, said that the training of the first batch of Naga foothill volunteers is on since February 12.The TNFO appealed to all Tangkhul Naga villages concerned to send their respective volunteers to the training centre by February 16.It might be mentioned that numerous Myanmar Nationals have been taking refuge in Phaikoh and Sangalok Huimine Thana near Aungiya village following the military coup in Myanmar.
