Demand for sacking CM akin to inviting PR: Bodies
Source: Chronicle News Service

Imphal, October 04 2023: Expressing concern that increasing number of organisations could divert the people's movement from the chosen path, Peace and Development Coordinating Committee (PDCC) has declared that it will participate in movements spearheaded by COCOMI and AMUCO only.

Informing this in a press meet at Manipur Press Club here on Wednesday, PDCC president L Joy said that it has been calling upon the CSOs to unite and spearhead the ongoing movement since the crisis broke out on May 3 .

Joy, meanwhile, raised strong objection against the demand for replacing the chief minister at this critical situation and appealed to all concerned to reconsider their demand as it would be akin to an open invitation for imposition of President's Rule in the state.

The committee appreciates the investigation of NIA and CBI for their swift and just investigation, which led to the arrest of several persons responsible for the ongoing ethnic clash, Kwakta SUV blast and cold blooded murder of the two students.

The president also urged the investigating agencies to expedite the probe to find bodies of the two students and hand over the same to the family members.

He further appreciated the report of defence minister asking Indian Air Force to assist in destroying illegal poppy cultivation.

Similar to the views and sentiment of PDCC, Mapari Thougal Lup advisor Sapa-mcha Kangleipal contended that it is not the time to discuss on whether or not to remove the present CM or deliberate on the ebb and flow of the MLAs but to concentrate on defeating the Kuki narco-terrorists and restore peace in Manipur.

He also appealed to the public not to indulge in anything which could create divisions among the Meiteis.

Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club here on Tuesday, Sapamcha Kangleipal said that it is not the time to play dirty politics at a time when the state is passing through a critical phase.

While noting that many Meitei settlements in Moreh, Churachandpur and Kangpokpi have been reduced to ashes, he also pointed out that in Lamlai area too, Meitei village of Gwaltabi exists no more while Sanasabi village is deserted.

As such the demand for replacing the CM at this juncture can be construed as playing dirty politics, he observed, and remarked that people of the state should not indulge in activities which could be detrimental to unity and interest of the Meiteis.

Kangleipal also regretted amid villagers of Lamlai remaining awake at night to protect their villages, the local MLA is compelled to stay in New Delhi for a long time as demanded by an organisation consequently creating problems and challenging situation for the people of Lamlai.

Kangleipal further stated that the public supported any agitation launched by any CSO or pressure groups in the state and there is no reason, to not support the agitations.

However, any decision taken by any CSO or pressure groups without considering the aspirations and desires of the Lamlai people shall not be endorsed, he declared.

No understanding or peace process shall be accepted till the displaced people of Gwaltabi are made to safely return to their village.

Kangleipal also stated that the people of Lamlai will not support any move of any political party, CSO or pressure groups playing politics and demanding removal of CM at this crucial moment.

The public movement should continue till bodies of the two murdered students are recovered, Kangleipal said.
